Eligibility criteria for being a postgraduate student in Germany:
Undergraduate Courses:
Along with the fundamental requirement of having a minimum percentage another requirement to pursue an undergraduate degree in Germany involves having a university entrance qualification (HZB) which is similar to a school leaving certificate that ensures the candidate is eligible to enroll in a university.
Germany mandates 13 years of school education before allowing candidates to enroll into their undergraduate programs. Since, the Indian education system provides only 12 years of schooling, it is necessary for Indian students to take the Studienkolleg course in Germany to be eligible for college enrollment. A substitute to fulfilling this criteria is pursuing the 1st year of the degree program in India itself.
Postgraduate courses:
In order to enroll into a postgraduate program in Germany students are required to have completed a bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a recognized institution with a minimum GPA as specified by the university.
Other requirements:
Even though Germany provides a student friendly environment and strives to support all international students there are a few criteria that need to be satisfied in order to be a student in Germany.
Along with having completed previous education and scored the minimum grade to enroll into a full time program in a German university, there are other requirements that need to be fulfilled to be eligible. This includes having a financial proof that demonstrates the candidate has enough resources to support themselves during their stay in Germany.
It is also necessary for the students to give evidence of academic accomplishments such as academic records and certificates. Some universities require students to have a letter of recommendation for the purpose of additional assessment.
German language proficiency: Is it mandatory to know German?
One of the most common misconceptions that students have is about German Universities having a mandatory requirement of students to know the German language. There is, however, little or no truth to this.
Most German universities have programs that are entirely taught in English. This allows students from diverse backgrounds to join such programs by only showing a proof of their English language knowledge like IELTS or TOEFL scores.
Although not mandatory, learning German can be helpful in many ways since it assists students in managing their everyday interactions and making their experience better.
Is Germany good for Indian students?
Germany has seen a rise in the number of students enrolled in German universities over the years.
From its globally recognized institutions to its student friendly living environment, Germany is a first preference for the majority of Indian postgraduate students looking to study abroad. It provides a perfect combination of academic excellence and practical experience.
The education in Germany is research based; students are provided with valuable hands-on practical experience in the form of internships that bridge the gap between learning and earning.
The country offers intensive programs that focus on providing practical experiences, affordable education and emphasis on internships. Students involved in full time courses can get exposure in various domains along with experiencing the rich culture of Germany alongside getting access to world-class education and employment opportunities.
If you’re looking to study abroad without any financial strain, Germany would undoubtedly be the right choice.
